1. I have missed the deadline by minutes. Can I still submit my idea?

Yes. If you have missed a pitch deadline by a matter of minutes, in a one off circumstance, it is still possible to submit your idea by entering it via the gallery.

To change the destination of your idea from pitch to gallery, you need to click on the destination button, before you click on the submit button.
You must then send an email immediately stating this action, with a ‘doctor’s note’, explaining reason for missing the deadline, along with your name, idea code and which pitch you’re entering to info@openad.net. Your idea can then be moved to the appropriate pitch.

Although in exceptional circumstances we will consider late entries, this is not a guarantee and late entries will not always be accepted.

We always try to work with our creatives in order that their ideas can be presented to the clients in the best format and with the maximum of impact. Realising that this process may take a little time (see Q2), we always advise creatives to try and submit ideas a few days before the deadline, leaving sufficient time for us to work together with you to ensure your idea meets all of OpenAd.net's technical requirements, while also, having the best possible impact.

2. What happens to my idea after I submit it?

All ideas submitted to the site are required to meet OpenAd.net's criteria. This means that after submission every idea is checked for content, presentation and functionality before it can take up residence in the Gallery; if an idea is thought by OpenAd.net's selection and evaluation team to require revision or reworking, it is returned to the author.

For example, we need to be sure that this is your idea, which you have the right to enter and that haven’t, for example, done it on ‘agency time’. Also, it mustn’t include any unaccounted for third party copyrights. For anything that you did not originate/create, such as the any image, film or music used in your idea, the owner of that particular copyright will have to have given you written permission. I.e., you must have the right to include any photos, songs, film clips that are used in your idea.

Ideas submitted in response to a pitch are also evaluated prior to being sent to the pitch holder in this way.

You will see that your ideas move through different areas. They will be 'In Evaluation', some are 'At Pitch Holder' and others are 'In Gallery'.

During the 'In Evaluation' stage your idea is actually passing through a number of processes.

The first is the Technical Evaluation stage, where a skilled team of OpenAd staff checks your idea to ensure it meets the technical requirements to be entered onto the site (either for the particular pitch you have entered or for the Gallery). The technical evaluation process does not arbitrate on the quality of ideas.
Factors we do consider are the copyrights mentioned above and how the idea looks (are all images correctly sized for client viewing, is it organised in the most saleable format, do all images display properly).

At this point we also look to check the grammar and spelling of the text you have used in any visuals and descriptions, to ensure your idea is presented in the best way possible.

If all is OK with your idea, whether it is for the Gallery or for a pitch, it is then assessed by the OpenAd.net Academy. These are a selected panel of industry experts. They will assess your idea based on criteria such as creativity, functionality and message. As a result of appointing key figures from the industry to act as the OpenAd.net Academy, it sometimes means there is a delay between your idea passing from Technical Evaluation through to the destination, as these people tend to be very busy.

If your idea meets the required standards, it will be promoted to the appropriate destination. When promoted to the Gallery, it will show the status 'In Gallery'. If it is for a client pitch, it will then be passed through for judging by the client, where it will show the status as 'At Pitch Holder'.

If, at any of the stages shown above, we feel your idea needs to be returned for reasons stated above, we will return it to you, along with detailed instructions on which changes we would recommend. The idea will then show the status 'Returned'. For legal reasons you must make all the changes yourself

3. How do I present ideas?

As OpenAd sells your intellectual property rights and you can only copyright an expression of an idea and not the idea itself; the better and more elaborately you express the idea, the better protected your rights are. Hence, we do require a visual expression of all elements, in addition to the idea details and any descriptive text that are requested

Equally, you will want to present the idea in the best way possible through a visual and descriptive text, as it is effectively a sales pitch for the idea and gives your idea the maximum visual impact in front of potential buyers

We do advise that you enter ideas with different concepts separately and ideas with the same underlying concept as one. For example, in your idea each element should have the same strap line. If the elements in your idea have different strap lines, then you have more than one idea here and you should enter each idea separately

You can see an example of how to present ideas by following this link .
Here you will be able to view samples of ideas. These are all ideas which have passed our full Technical Evaluation and so, are in an ‘optimal’ format for viewing by potential clients and so, make good examples for you to use as guidance.

We do understand that some of you may not be from the graphic side of the business and may find representing the idea visually more difficult than others. However, we must stress that on OpenAd.net it is always the essence of the idea, rather than its presentation that is judged.
For image based ideas, you will be able to find a large number of suitable images simply by searching through the appropriate Royalty-Free stocks on either Corbis or Photolibrary. Alternatively a simple hand-sketch or illustration may also suffice.
For copy based/headline ideas please visualise the type face as it would be in the idea. Again, a simple hand-sketch or illustration will suffice.

Please click here for the specific advice and guidance on acceptable file types, formats and organisation for each individual element type. This advice is also shown for the element you are uploading during the idea upload process.

4. Is there a Spellcheck or Grammar-checking facility on OpenAd.net?

Unfortunately we do not have such a capability on OpenAd.net at this time. We do understand that the language you use within your ideas’ visuals, scripts and Idea Message and Description is very important in the presentation of your idea to potential clients.

Our advice is to draft ALL the text you will be using (including the text you will use in your visuals, even if it will be hand-written) in a word-processor document with the language set to ‘English’. You can then use the spell and grammar checker from the word processor to do this. This will help to ensure that your visuals are error-free.

Even so, we understand that errors are made and that not all of you speak English as your native language. This is why we have a skilled team of English speakers (sensitive to the unique requirements of marketing, advertising and copywriting) who carry out the Technical Evaluation of your idea and are able to work with you, to put your thoughts over in the best way possible. Thus helping you to know that when your idea is in front of the potential client, it will be presented in the most professional, understandable and saleable format possible.

5. I sent the signed copies of my Author Agreement to you a while ago, but still keep getting reminders from you to do this. Should I send the Agreements again?

You don’t need to do this

It sometimes takes quite a while before international post reaches our offices. Once we have received your agreement we do try and enter this onto the system as soon as possible, and as soon as this is done, you shouldn’t receive any more reminders.

It does help if, once you have sent your agreements to us, you e-mail us with full details of when you sent the Agreements and by what sort of post (standard air mail, registered mail, etc.). This will enable us to monitor your account, stop the reminders being sent out and if the Agreements don’t arrive within a reasonable time, then ask you to resend them.
