Brit wins E-newspaper pitch

British designer, Ian Dewsbery has taken first place in OpenAd’s e-newspaper pitch. He receives 600 USD for his idea ‘Stay on top’ that argues that paper-newspapers are yesterday’s news.

Creatives were given the challenge of converting businessmen to e-newspapers by convincing them that they are a more convenient way to read the news.
Ian comments on his idea: “Newspapers are yesterday's news. Because events can change by the minute, often dramatically, I wanted to emphasise the dynamic nature of e-news and the fact that papers simply cannot react. Subscription to an e-newspaper will ensure that you stay on top in both local/world events and in business."

Ian is currently employed as a designer/cartographer near Oxford, but is keen to break into advertising as a copywriter. He said: “As far as I am aware, OpenAd is alone in providing the opportunity for people in my situation (neither 'in the industry' nor a student) to pitch against creatives across the world and prove our worth. The prize money is, of course, welcome… but I'm more grateful for the exposure that a win like this brings.”

Several creatives were also awarded a runner-up prize of 300 USD. They include: Ariel Molina, Argentina, for his idea ‘You are here’, Art Director Gavin Nicholls and Copywriter Maria Prchlik, UK, for their idea ‘No paper’, Andrés Flores, Chile, for ‘News is not about paper’, Stefania Piselli and Francesco Terrosi, Italy, for ‘Read differently’ and Antonio Alfredo Passarell, Argentina, for his idea ‘Advantages’.

While each runner-up shares a passion for advertising their job roles vary; Antonio has worked in the field of design and advertising for over 10 years. He has his own advertising company and has won awards for his work in Argentina. Andrés works as an internet consultant for a Spanish consultancy firm Multiplica. And Ariel is a past winner on OpenAd with a degree in Advertising Technique and is also recognised by Círculo de Creativos de Argentina (Argentinian Creatives Circle). Stefania started her career in a contemporary art studio and is now working as a graphic designer for fashion advertising agencies in Florence. Francesco, on the other hand, started building his experience working in architecture 3d graphic. He is now a freelance graphic and sound designer in a Florentine audio-visual performance group.

Jo Smith, OpenAd’s General Manager, UK said: “The result of this pitch accentuates the worth of OpenAd’s democratic route to finding creative talent and big ideas”.
